Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi affirmed, today, Saturday, that Dhi Qar Combined Cycle Power Plant will provide 500 MW as a first phase.
The media office of the Prime Minister stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that the PM arrived in Dhi Qar province to inaugurate the Combined Cycle Power Plant in Nasiriyah.
During the inauguration, Al-Kadhimi said: We are opening, with God's blessing, the installed Combined Cycle Power Plant works by gas in Nasiriyah, as it produces more electrical energy than other electricity stations, but at the same time preserves the environment by using the gases extracted from it, which were previously wasted.
In this phase, the station will provide 500 megawatts to the province and the national network, while the second phase of completing the station, a new 250 MW will be added by taking advantage of the gases generated from the current stage as a source of power instead of fuel, Al-Kadhimi added.
In a related issue, Al-Kadhimi also mentioned that the last month witnessed the inauguration of Al-Muthanna power station, which is also a combined station works by gas, and we will soon open the Samarra station, which has been completed recently, pointing out that the government will focus on shifting to solar energy instead of gas stations.
Al-Kadhimi concluded his speech by emphasizing that the government is exerting great efforts to complete the electrical connection with neighboring countries as achieving of all these integrated plans will help solve the problem of accumulated and overlaid electricity once and for all in Iraq.
