The Supreme Committee overseeing the empowerment of women to participate in the political process and elections for the Iraqi Council of Representatives, which is affiliated with the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, discussed a draft of its action plan for the political empowerment of women, in preparation for its announcement at the beginning of next June 2021.
A statement by the General Secretariat said, "The committee held a consultative meeting in the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers under the supervision of Dr. Yusra Karim Mohsen, Director General of the Iraqi Women Empowerment Department in the General Secretariat, and the presidency of Dr. Ahlam Al-Jabri, a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Elections Commission, in the presence of representatives of government agencies." According to the statement, the committee reviewed "the objectives and activities that it has defined in the action plan and its implementation mechanisms according to specific timelines that the Supreme Committee and the supporting bodies adopt during the two phases before and after the parliamentary elections to be held in October of this year."
The committee stressed the importance of uniting all sectoral efforts, including the concerned authorities in the Kurdistan region, to provide support and attribution for female candidates, through educational sessions and seminars that the committee will hold in this field, including protecting them from media shadowing.
The committee identified key pillars in managing its work represented by (women's political participation, protection, laws and legislation, and community awareness).
