The US Federal Aviation Administration called on airlines to show "extreme degrees" of caution while carrying out flights near the Russian-Ukrainian borders.
In a note addressed to airlines, the US administration said, "The escalating regional tensions between Russia and Ukraine, which are likely to lead to cross-border clashes without early warning and increased military activities and conflict."
The US administration had imposed restrictions on civil aviation in the area near the border between Russia and Ukraine since 2014, when the conflict began in the Donbas region, eastern Ukraine.
The conflict zone in eastern Ukraine has witnessed an escalation of tension in the recent period. The two Ukrainian parties to the conflict exchanged accusations of intensifying military activities and bombing operations on the front line.
