Windows of the Real Madrid bus were smashed as it took the team to Anfield ahead of the Champions League quarter-final second leg against Liverpool.
The Real Madrid team bus was attacked on its way to Anfield, with several windows being smashed by objects, including a bottle and stones, hurled at the vehicle.
The bus was on route to Anfield stadium, where Real Madrid faces Liverpool in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final. Zidane's side won the first leg 3-1.
The Real Madrid bus was taking the players from their hotel in Liverpool, the Titanic, to the game.
The attack on the bus smashed the outside windows of the vehicle, but did not manage to break the inner windows. No individual inside the bus was injured in the attack. Witnesses said the area of most damage to the bus occurred next to where Zinedine Zidane was sitting.
Hundreds of Liverpool fans were out on the streets of the city to welcome the buses of Liverpool and Real Madrid, with chants and flares. The Real Madrid was the first to arrive at the stadium and many fans, most of them not wearing masks and ignoring social distancing rules, approached the bus, singing songs, chanting, letting off fireworks and flares, before objects were thrown at the vehicle.
