The Ministry of Electricity confirmed that the financial dues owed by Iraq in favor of Iran in return for gas are available at the TBI bank, while indicating that the gas supply problem exists.
In a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the ministry’s spokesman, Ahmad Musa, explained that “there is a problem in Iranian banks due to the imposed US sanctions,” noting that “it was difficult to pay the sums that Iraq owed in dollars.
He added, "Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi directed, through government delegations, to overcome this problem through new agreements and protocols on the issue of supplying gas, especially with the coming of the summer season and the ministry’s need for gas to operate the stations," noting that "the problem still exists until now, because Iran has not supplied Gas to Iraq in required quantities. "
He pointed out that "in the past, the supply was 50 million cubic meters of Iranian gas in the winter and reached 70 million cubic meters in the summer, while Iran has not currently supplied the ministry with only 22 million and perhaps 23 million cubic meters of gas."
