More than 10 people fled the violence in Myanmar, today, Tuesday, and they were allowed to cross to Thailand to receive medical treatment in a border village.
A health official in "Mai Sam Leap" village said that the people who arrived by boat across the river that marks the border were of the Karen ethnicity, who opposed the Myanmar military coup in February. Thai activists accused of returning potential refugees to Myanmar.
A senior official declared that Thailand had no policy of returning refugees fleeing the conflict from Myanmar and was accepting refugees on a humanitarian basis.
A spokesman for the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thani Sangrat, said that there could be discussion between officials and refugees, and when the situation calmed down they could voluntarily return to their country.
The series of air strikes carried out by the Myanmar army along the country's borders raised fears that more villagers would flee to neighboring Thailand in large numbers, adding a new dimension to the volatile crisis.
Myanmar military aircraft carried out air strikes on the border area, and these strikes, which were carried out over the weekend, prompted about 2,500 people to flee Mae Hong Son province, northern Thailand.
