Jeanine Plasschaert, head of the UNAMI Mission in Iraq, confirmed today, Tuesday, the continued support of the United Nations to the people and government of Iraq.
Plasschaert said in a speech to the Security Council that "Iraq needs a political will to be more just and prosperous," noting that "the situation in Iraq does not allow it to be an arena for war or conflict from different powers."
Plasschaert noted that "the formation of a new government in Iraq after a long wait is very welcome," stressing that "the United Nations will continue to support the Iraqi people and the Al-Kadhmi government."
