First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Hassan al-Kaabi urged the blocs on agreeing to pass the elections law to be with an independent commission and it is considered as the most important guarantees for the integrity of the upcoming elections.
This came during a meeting chaired by al-Kaabi that included chairmen and representatives of parliamentary blocs to discuss the final touches of the draft law on the elections of the parliament as a prelude to voting on it in the coming days.
He added that the importance of this law resulted in approximately 20 meetings and dialogues that were held both within the Parliamentary Committee or with the leaders of the parliamentary blocs, as well as with relevant sectoral bodies such as United Nations experts in Iraq and the Independent Electoral Commission, and the goal was to come up with a static elections law that meets the ambition of the public and enhances their confidence in the electoral system and their transparent representation.
They also discussed several important items included in the draft law, which require taking the opinion of technical units to ensure that no obstacles occur during the implementation phase, and they also study number of proposals that are actually applicable, and it is hoped that they will be present it during the voting session and take the best of it.
