Iraq and US discuss bilateral relations

The Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi confirmed the important strategic partnership with the USA, and Iraq keeps on its balanced policy which build friendship bridges with all friendly and neighboring countries, including Iran.

A statement issued by the Media Office of the Prime Minister said that PM asserted during the visit of the US foreign Secretary Mike Pompeo to Iraq last night, and after two phone calls between the two on Saturday and Monday, on Iraq’s wish to develop the relations with the American side and with the rest countries in all aspects.

Mahdi affirmed that Iraq builds its relations on the basis of putting the country’s interests first, and to work to deepen the common interests without stopping in disagreements, the statement showed.

The statement added the meeting included discussing the results of the European tour the PM did lately, besides his important visits to the neighboring countries.

From his side, Pompeo expressed his happiness with the Iraqi Government efforts and the roles it plays, as well as attracting foreign investments and experts, praising the Cabinet’s decision to agree with Exxon Mobile on the Integrated South Venture, the statement concluded.
