Minister of Agriculture Saleh al-Hassani inaugurated the irrigation project in Wasit province on Saturday.
The ministry said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that Al-Hassani stressed the importance of promoting the agricultural sector, opening the projects to eliminate unemployment, return the displaced to their areas and fill the market need of local products, noting that the current and future reality of the country in terms of water is insufficient Calling farmers to use modern irrigation systems to rationalize water consumption.
He added that the establishment of such a project is the first kind in Iraq, where it relies on rainwater and groundwater to irrigate crops.
