The Drug Affairs Directorate, Ministry of Interior, announced on Monday the dismantling of an international drug network specializing in the manufacturing, smuggling, and trafficking of narcotics from the center of the country to the north.
"Based on the directives of the PM and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the directives of the Minister of Interior, Abdul Amir Al-Shimmari, and the decisions of the Iraqi judiciary at the Central Investigation Court in Rusafa, the General Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances at the Ministry of Interior carried out a security and intelligence operation targeting an international drug network whose crimes extend from Baghdad to Salah al-Din, Kirkuk, Sulaymaniyah, Erbil, and Nineveh," said the directorate in a video - followed up by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.
The video included details of the operation as it resulted in "the arrest of seven international drug dealers and the seizure of 90,000 Captagon pills in addition to special machines used to prepare the raw materials for manufacturing crystal meth."
"Our directorate is not limited to combating narcotics locally, but has advanced its work after liaising with the Minister of Interior to combat them regionally and internationally," included the Directorate.
