Diyala – INA
Diyala Governorate announced on Friday the production of more than 70,000 tons of citrus fruits during the winter season.
Ismail Talib Hassan, Secretary of the Diyala Farmers' Associations Union, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "More than 70,000 tons is the percentage of citrus fruit production this season in Diyala Governorate," noting that "the governorate has achieved an increase in production despite the scarcity of water it has experienced."
He added that "the markets and shops have witnessed crowding of local crops despite the presence of imported crops," indicating that "Diyala has suffered from drought over the past three years, which has had a severe impact on the agricultural situation in the governorate."
He pointed out that "life has returned to the governorate's orchards, yielding the best types of citrus fruits. This is a season of good fortune for the people of Diyala regarding citrus fruits." He called on "the Ministry of Agriculture to support farmers and assist them with all the necessary supplies to ensure the success of their agricultural projects."
