The Ministry of Water Resources announced today, Saturday, the arrival of a wave of torrents to the Tigris River via Iran.
Engineer Saadi Mahdi Saleh, head of the Water Resources Division in Ali al-Gharbi, said in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "a new wave of torrents and rain arrived today, through the northern Shamshir outlet as a result of the fall of large amounts of rain during the past two days in the border areas between Iraq and Iran."
He explained that "water flowed from several valleys, including Wadi al-Jifta, Wadi Talil, Wadi al-Za'faran, and Wadi Jabab, where they all flow into the northern Shamshir outlet, and from there to the Tigris River, in an amount estimated at more than 25 cubic meters per second, with expectations of an increase in flow in the coming hours."
He added that "there are other torrents that arrived through Al-Jafaj in Wasit Governorate, but in smaller quantities, estimated at between 5 to 6 cubic meters per second via Wadi Al-Jalbab. In contrast, the Shamshir smuggler in Ali Al-Gharbi witnessed very good flows of 25 cubic meters per second, with their continued increase." He stressed that "the competent authorities are following up on the situation to ensure optimal use of this water and to enhance the water stock."
