Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani sponsored the General Tribal Conference today, Monday, organized by the Ministry of Interior.
Media Office of the Prime Minister said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency INA that Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani sponsored the General Tribal Conference today, Monday, organized by the Ministry of Interior.
The statement read "In his speech, the Prime Minister emphasized the vital role of Iraq’s tribes in upholding state sovereignty and the rule of law, as well as in maintaining stability and security. He highlighted the contributions of tribal members across the country in combating ISIS terrorist groups and safeguarding the nation. He further noted that the government program has placed special emphasis on the role of tribes, acknowledging their significant contributions to development, public services, and reconstruction, as well as their support for the national project adopted by the government.
It further said "The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of tribal support in backing the government’s efforts, which have included launching numerous projects and reviving stalled ones. He also noted that the government has implemented a comprehensive package of reforms to address the legacy of flawed policies that persisted for decades, ultimately confining the country to a single-resource economy."
The statement stated that Al-Sudani affirmed " Tribes are one of Iraq’s most essential social pillars, representing a unifying force and a vital symbol of national identity," adding that " Iraqi tribes have played a crucial role in fostering stability, maintaining security, and supporting state institutions."
The prime minister said "A major focus of the government program has been on public services, with tribal support significantly contributing to the success of development projects," affirming that " Agriculture has been a key priority for the government, with efforts focused on launching modern irrigation projects and providing essential resources to farmers."
He also said "We have directed the full and timely disbursement of agricultural crop payments and reaffirmed our commitment to revitalizing rural areas, ensuring they become productive hubs that contribute to national development. The government has prioritized industrial growth, implementing comprehensive plans to localize manufacturing and revive factories under the “Made in Iraq” initiative."
He confirmed "We have launched the Development Road Project, one of the most ambitious and transformative initiatives in the region—and potentially the world—integrating a series of strategic projects across multiple sectors. We have made significant strides in implementing reforms, and we call on our tribes to actively support and engage in these efforts, as they pave the way for a comprehensive revival that will shape Iraq’s present and future."
Al-Sudani stated "We urge tribal sheikhs and notables across the provinces to play an active role in ensuring the continuity of service projects and facilitating the work of companies engaged in development efforts. We call on our tribes to strengthen their role in upholding the state and reinforcing the rule of law."
He confirmed "Tribes must take decisive action to resolve disputes that claim innocent lives and eliminate harmful social practices. Collaboration with security agencies is essential to ensuring wrongdoers are held accountable, preventing them from being shielded and instead bringing them to justice, as national security must remain the highest priority."
The prime minister confirmed "We commend the Ministry of Interior and its Tribal Affairs Directorate for their continued efforts in supporting and engaging with Iraq’s esteemed tribal sheikhs. It is essential to facilitate administrative procedures for tribal sheikhs and support them in fulfilling their social and official responsibilities."
He stated "The growing threat of drug abuse is devastating our youth and fueling crime, and we rely on our tribal sheikhs to stand with the government in combating this crisis. Tribes must safeguard their communities against voices of division, which seek to fragment Iraq’s social fabric along sectarian or ethnic lines."
Al-Sudani stated "The government has approached regional developments with wisdom, balancing firm positions with decisive action while avoiding rash decisions and unnecessary escalation. Through its balanced policies, the government has shielded Iraq from external threats and prevented it from being drawn into a conflict intended to engulf the entire region."
