The commander of the NATO mission in Iraq, General Lucas Schreurs , confirmed today, Thursday, that the mission in Iraq is non-military but advisory, while explaining that the mission came to Iraq at the request of the government to help with training.
Schreurs said in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The NATO mission in Iraq is non-military but advisory, and we came at the invitation of the government to help with security stability and training of Iraqi forces," noting that "the mission provides accurate advice to the Iraqi forces."
He added that "our visit to Babylon is to learn about Iraqi culture and history, as we must understand Iraqi history and how it was, and I encourage everyone to visit Babylon as it is a great city with a long history," noting that he "admires how the Iraqis preserve the heritage and how they build the city in the right way."
