The Minister of Electricity, Ziad Ali Fadhel, confirmed on Wednesday that there is an abnormal increase in electricity consumption, noting that there is high coordination with the Kurdistan regional government on the issue of importing energy and gas.

The minister said, in a dialogue session during the Iraq Energy Conference, and attended by the reporter of the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "Due to the shortage of Iranian gas, the system lost 8 thousand megawatts," noting that "all projects need two to five years to be completed."

He added, "There is an abnormal increase in electricity consumption, and we need to educate citizens in rationalizing consumption and contributing to processing hours."

He pointed out that "because of the full pressure, we went to other sources of fuel after the cessation of imports from Iran, we went to Turkmenistan," pointing out that "there is high coordination with the Kurdistan regional government on the issue of importing energy and gas."

"The exchange of energy with the Region is high and has contributed to equipping the northern Region with electrical energy," he said, stressing that "the Ministry of Electricity has a promising plan divided over the years."

"Last summer, demand reached 48,000 megawatts, while production was 27,000 megawatts," he said.
