The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, PM Muhammed S. Al-Sudani, has directed on Sunday hiring additional members of the Christian community into the local police force in Nineveh Province.

“As part of the government’s efforts to support stability and development across all regions of Iraq, including the Nineveh Plains - renowned as a symbol of history, culture, and coexistence among diverse communities and faiths - the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, PM Al-Sudani, has directed hiring of additional members of the Christian community into the local police force in Nineveh Province,” said the Spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Sabah Al-Numan in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency – INA.

He added, “This follows the acceptance of Christian recruits over the past two years into the Police Academy, the Higher Institute for Administrative and Professional Development, the Police Service Members Training Institute, and the Policewomen Training Institute.

“This decision reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening the relationship between local communities and security institutions while preserving the Christian presence in Mesopotamia as an essential part of Iraq’s history and diversity. It aligns with broader efforts to promote stability in the Nineveh Plains and safeguard the Chaldean, Assyrian, and Syriac heritage in its cities, towns, and villages,” he added.

Al-Numan noted, “These initiatives focus on rebuilding areas affected by conflict, implementing projects that serve returning and displaced families, reversing migration trends, and ensuring the provision of essential services across all sectors,” pointing out “the inclusion of Christian citizens in the security forces represents a significant step toward fostering national unity, respecting Iraq’s diversity—recognized as a cornerstone of its strength and cohesion—and preserving the nation’s unique social mosaic. Furthermore, it ensures fair representation for all components of the Iraqi people in maintaining security and protecting their communities.”
