In a small area not exceeding six meters, three thousand pictures gathered holding the Iraqi history memory since the beginning of the 19th century till the 1970s and 1980s across political, social, cultural, art and sport personalities.
“Mesopotamia Museum”, as his owner Assa’d Abdul Majeed likes to call it, lies in the middle of Souq Haraj , in the heart of Baghdad, and includes documentary pictures about Iraqi politicians, besides Baghdad heritage areas, streets and squares, which some of them vanished now.
Majeed said that he inherited this job from his father before thirty years, searching for any rare picture and put it to his collection which reaches three thousand pictures, starting from Ottoman Empire Governors, Presidents, ministers and Iraqi Government politicians since 1920s, and it also includes pictures of men of history, arts and poetry in those periods.
Majeed referred that many delegations and tourists visited his museum, besides international press agencies from the USA, the UK and Sweden, where all of them expressed their admiration with the exhibitions.
Majeed beseeches the Ministry of Culture to visit the place, on hope to move it into more spacious place to let the young generation see Iraq and Baghdad before more than one hundred years through white and black pictures before spoiling them with colours.
