PM Muhammed S. Al-Sudani met on Thursday, at his residence in London, a delegation from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development - EBRD, headed by the bank’s President, Odile Renaud-Basso.

Al-Sudani expressed his appreciation for the bank members’ approval of Iraq’s accession in October of last year, according to a statement by the PM Media Office - received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.

He highlighted the importance of partnership with the EBRD, "particularly as it involves collaboration across multiple sectors that the government has prioritized in its program."

The meeting included discussions on the mechanisms for implementing the agreement signed with the EBRD, previously approved by the Iraqi Parliament and the bank’s role in developing Iraq’s private sector.

They discussed the opportunities for cooperation in renewable energy projects, including solar and wind energy, as part of efforts to reduce carbon emissions and enhance energy efficiency.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the government has several key projects "where the bank’s financing could play a significant role," particularly in vital infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and public transportation, especially in conflict-affected areas, highlighting the request for technical assistance from the bank to enhance and develop Iraq’s banking sector.

Furthermore, he stressed the importance of the bank’s president visiting Iraq to explore potential opportunities for collaboration.

During the meeting, "a proposal was made to establish a joint working group tasked with prioritizing projects in which the EBRD would participate in Iraq."
