Prime Minister congratulates Lebanon on electing Joseph Aoun as President of the Republic

Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani congratulated the Lebanese government and people on Thursday on electing Joseph Aoun as President of the Republic.

Al-Sudani said in a tweet on the (X) platform, followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "We congratulate brotherly Lebanon, its people and government, on completing the national constitutional entitlement, and the election of Joseph Aoun as President of the Republic by Parliament, wishing him success and good luck in his great tasks.".

He added, "This is another step on the path to consolidating stability and strengthening the state of institutions, which the representatives of the brotherly Lebanese people were able to perform and bear their historical responsibility.".

He continued: "We in Iraq have always stood with Lebanon in all difficulties and hardships, and we are still determined to support the steadfastness of the Lebanese in the face of any aggression or threat that destabilizes the security of this brotherly country." He concluded by saying: “Just as we seize this opportunity to express our adherence to the deepest human, social, religious and cultural ties that bind us to Lebanon, may God Almighty protect it as a safe and secure country, and protect its generous, united and strong people.”
