Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani stressed on Monday that empowering women and enhancing their status is the cornerstone of building a more just and advanced society.
The President of the Region said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, we renew our commitment to protecting women's rights in Kurdistan, and we assure them that we will continue to work to end all forms of violence and discrimination against women."
The statement added, "The Kurdistan Region is a pioneer in supporting women's rights and providing opportunities for their participation in political and administrative life on an equal with men. We believe that women are not only a major partner in decision-making, but are the basis for permanent change and development."
According to the statement, Barzani called for "more cooperation between government institutions, civil society organizations and the media, to spread more awareness and promote the values of tolerance and equality."
It pointed out, "We pledge to the women of Kurdistan to continue working tirelessly to achieve justice and equality and enhance their capabilities to perform their important role in serving and building the country."
