Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani stressed, today, Wednesday, the need to expedite understandings and begin forming the new government in Kurdistan, while indicating that understanding and stability in the region is a strength for all components of Iraqi society.
The Prime Minister's media office said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): that "Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani met in Erbil with representatives of the various political forces and components that won the elections for the Kurdistan Regional Parliament in Iraq."
At the beginning of the meeting, Prime Minister Al-Sudani congratulated the attendees on earning the trust of the people in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, emphasizing that the regional elections are a significant milestone in the political process.
He highlighted that the elections reinforce the principles of democracy and the peaceful transfer of power, reflecting the commitment of the people in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq to the electoral process. He also noted that the federal government worked closely with all political forces and the President of the Kurdistan Region to ensure the successful completion of the elections and to provide all necessary requirements for their success.
Al-Sudani stressed the need to expedite the dialogues to form the government and for the regional parliament to start its work, as citizens are eager to see elections programs translated into improvements in their living and service conditions. He emphasized that having a functioning parliament and government in the region will enhance political stability for both the federal government and the Kurdistan Region, as stability and understanding in the region contribute to the strength of all components of Iraqi society.
The Prime Minister also noted that the current circumstances in our region require the cooperation of all efforts, both within the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and at the federal level. He highlighted that many issues left over from previous administrations have been addressed and affirmed that there are still steps ahead to resolve the remaining issues.
The representatives of the political forces and components expressed their gratitude for the Prime Minister’s initiative to meet and listen to them, acknowledging that this step is unprecedented and demonstrates the federal government’s care and attention toward Iraqis across all parts of the country.
