Rashid discusses with Azerbaijani counterpart strengthening cooperation in COP 29

    The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, discussed on Monday with his counterpart, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, strengthening cooperation at the United Nations Climate Conference COP 29. 

    A statement issued by the Media Office of the Presidency of the Republic, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that "the President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, met at the headquarters of the United Nations Climate Conference COP 29 in the Azerbaijani capital Baku, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev."

     The statement added that "the two sides discussed the nature of the close relations between Iraq and Azerbaijan at various levels, where the President of the Republic stressed the importance of expanding the horizons of joint cooperation to include the fields of economy, industry, investment, tourism, environment and energy in a way that serves the interests of the two countries."


    The statement pointed out that "the themes that will be discussed during the United Nations Climate Conference COP 29 were discussed, in addition to discussing a number of regional and global issues, as the two sides stressed the need to intensify international efforts to face the current challenges and work to end them in a way that consolidates the foundations of international peace and security." 


    The President of the Republic stressed "the importance of activating the mechanisms of bilateral and international cooperation and coordination in the field of combating climate change facing the world and reducing its danger."


     For his part, President Ilham Aliyev expressed his thanks to "the President of the Republic of Iraq for his visit to Azerbaijan and his participation in the conference," stressing "his country's keenness to strengthen relations with Iraq in various fields." 


    The statement added that "the meeting was attended by Health Minister Saleh Al-Hasnawi, head of the presidential office Kamel Al-Dulaimi and head of the parliamentary agriculture, water and marshes committee, Faleh Al-Khazali."
