The General Authority of the West Asian Fencing Federation renewed its confidence in the President of the Regional Federations, "Ziad Hassan", for a new electoral term of four years, during the elections that took place yesterday in Sulaymaniyah Governorate, in the presence of the members of the Executive Office of the Iraqi National Olympic Committee, Dr. Harda Raouf and Basem Ahmed, and representatives of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Iraqi National Olympic Committee, and a number of sports figures.
A statement by the Iraqi National Olympic Committee, followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that "the elections also witnessed the victory of Rashid Shabab Al-Shamali from Kuwait, and Sheikh Hussein from Yemen as Vice President, as well as the election of Wasim Issa Al-Hassan from Saudi Arabia, Hamad Abdullah Al-Mansouri from the Emirates, Ahmed Dawood Metwally from Palestine, Basma Al-Sabbagh from Syria, Imad Nahhas from Lebanon, and Fahd Abdullah Al-Mulla from Qatar as members of the Board of Directors of the West Asian Fencing Federation, in the presence of representatives of ten countries: Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Yemen, Bahrain, Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and Syria."
The statement added that "Sulaymaniyah Governorate hosted a meeting of the General Assembly of the West Asian Federation on the sidelines of the elections, during which all administrative, technical, and financial reports were unanimously approved. The meeting also witnessed a review of the curricula and plans to develop the sport of fencing in the region according to the priorities and interests of the member states, with those present praising the leadership role played by Iraq, which resulted in various achievements in the game."
