Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araqchi stressed, today, Thursday, the necessity of unifying efforts to stop the ceasefire in Lebanon.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein met today with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York," indicating that "during the meeting, bilateral relations between Iraq and Iran and the importance of the recent visit of the Iranian President and his accompanying delegation to Baghdad were discussed, which represented an important station for enhancing cooperation between the two countries."

It added that "the two sides reviewed the recent developments in the region, especially in Lebanon, where the seriousness of these developments and the ramifications they may cause on the regional and international arenas were noted.

" The two ministers stressed, "that the catastrophic humanitarian and economic consequences, in addition to the direct security effects, threaten international peace and security."

The two parties agreed "on the need to unify efforts and positions, especially at the Islamic level, to pressure for an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon," noting "the inability and lack of adequate response by international mechanisms specialized in dealing with armed conflicts and acts of aggression."

They stressed "the importance of the UN Security Council carrying out its duties in this regard."

Hussein discussed Iraq's proposal to the Arab group, which calls for holding an Arab and Islamic summit aimed at mobilizing international support for a ceasefire in Lebanon, stressing that "Iraq will continue to follow up on this proposal in the coming days to achieve the convening of this summit."
