SJC: Life sentences for two drug traffickers in Najaf and Maysan

    The Supreme Judicial Council-SJC issued on Monday, a life imprisonment sentence against two drug traffickers in the provinces of Najaf and Maysan.
     
    The media center of the Supreme Judicial Council stated in a press release received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that “Najaf Criminal Court sentenced a drug trafficker to life imprisonment for the crime of trafficking in narcotics, noting that the convict was found in possession of 390 amphetamine pills, intended for promotion and sale to drug users."

    It continued, “Maysan Criminal Court also sentenced a drug trafficker to life imprisonment after being caught in possession of 3 kilograms of crystal meth. The defendant was apprehended and confessed to trafficking and transporting the narcotics to Najaf province."
     
    The statement noted that "the sentences against the drug traffickers was in accordance with Article 28/First of the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 50 of 2017."
