Manchester United suffered its first loss in the current season in the English Premier League, falling to host Brighton 1-2, today, Saturday, at the opening of the second round.
Brighton took the lead through veteran striker Danny Welbeck in the 32nd minute after a cross from Japanese Mitoma into the penalty area, which Welbeck easily turned into the net.
Amad Diallo equalized for United in the 59th minute after a great pass from Moroccan full-back Noussair Mazraoui, before the referee disallowed a second goal for Manchester United after a ball was turned into an empty net by Garnacho, but it hit offside striker Zirkzee and went into the net.
Brighton snatched the win and the third points in the dying moments thanks to a goal scored by Joao Pedro with a wonderful header in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
Brighton raised their score to six points at the top temporarily, while Manchester United's score froze at three points.
