The Interior Ministry said on Wednesday that a clash in Diwaniyah resulted in the death of one drug dealer and the injuries of another.
The General Directorate of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Affairs in Diwaniyah province "recorded a new victory in its war against drug traffickers," according to a ministry statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
"After ambushing them in the eastern Hamza area, a qualitative operation led the detachments to two senior drug dealers in the province. Following an exchange of fire between the security forces and the wanted, one of them was killed and the other was injured and fled," the statement continued. The security team conducting the search is still looking for the injured dealer, and they have found weapons that were used by drug dealers.
"The operation also resulted in the director of narcotics affairs in the province being moderately injured. He was transferred to the hospital for treatment, and his health condition is stable," the statement stated.
