The landing of new submarine cables in FAO was a topic of discussion between the Ministry of Communications and the Qatari telecommunications company Ooredoo on Thursday.
The Iraqi News Agency (INA) obtained a statement from the ministry stating that "Mohamed bin Abdullah Al Thani, the Deputy CEO of the Qatari company Ooredoo Group, was received by Minister of Communications Hiam Al-Yasiri." The statement further stated that "Ooredoo, a telecommunications company based in Qatar, possesses a portion of the submarine cables that cross the Arabian Gulf."
In order to land several submarine cables at the Fao station to carry Internet capacity through Iraq and to Europe, Al-Yasiri emphasized during the meeting "the importance of joint and great cooperation with the Qatari side through the Ooredoo Group."
The minister emphasized "the importance of strengthening the important geographical location of the Iraq that parallels the Suez Canal in the region and continuing to activate the contractual procedures for landing submarine cables to pass international communications."
