Plans to increase educational programs in correctional facilities are announced by the Minister of Justice

    Justice Minister Khaled Shawani announced plans to increase educational programs in prisons today, Sunday, stating that the goal is to change the offender's criminal history, reform him, and reintegrate him into society.

    "The Ministry of Justice is honored to organize its first conference on educational programs in correctional facilities, departments and schools," stated Shawani in a speech at the inaugural event for the first conference on educational programs in which the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reporter attended. "These curricula aim to reform and change the criminal history of the offender and integrate him into society."


     He added, "Education is a basic human right and is stipulated in human rights, and in accordance with Article 34 of the Iraqi Constitution and Article 17, the right of prisoners to education, and this came in implementation of the government program headed by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani."
     
     He pointed out that "the alliance between the Ministries of Justice and Higher Education and partner universities contributed to the entry of a number of students into evening university studies in the year 2023/2024," stressing "the existence of plans to expand these projects in all correctional facilities in Iraq."
