Baghdad-INA
Justice Minister Khalid Shawani has issued directives to install complaint boxes within prison halls, aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability.
According to a statement from the Government Media and Communication Department, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), "Minister Shawani has instructed the installation of complaint boxes in all correctional departments. This initiative is designed to enable inmates to confidentially submit requests, complaints, or report any violations of their rights directly to the minister, free from any external pressures or repercussions."
"These complaint boxes will serve as a secure channel for inmates to report incidents of misconduct or deficiencies that may impact their rights. They will be under the exclusive oversight of the minister's office, with contents regularly reviewed by a dedicated committee to ensure prompt resolution," the statement added.
Minister Shawani emphasized that this initiative forms part of ongoing efforts by the ministry to improve prison conditions and uphold human rights standards. "I am personally committed to addressing these concerns swiftly and implementing necessary measures," he affirmed.
