The advisor to the Prime Minister for oversight and integrity, Muayyad Al-Saadi, confirmed on Friday, the existence of a comprehensive plan to combat corruption and recover smuggled funds. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani expressed unlimited support for the recovery of funds and repatriate wanted individuals.
Al-Saadi, in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), said, "Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani has demonstrated significant concern and daily follow-up on anti-corruption measures, and has been working on various initiatives." He noted that "teams have been formed to receive intelligence and reports on corruption, follow up on them, uncover them, and refer them to the Integrity Commission and the Public Prosecution for the purpose of holding violators accountable, pursuing them, and recovering funds."
He further elaborated that ""key priorities include routine evaluations conducted through semi-annual and annual reports by oversight bodies responsible for daily monitoring of ministries and provinces in the anti-corruption effort." Furthermore, he underscored the importance of digital transformation and the implementation of unified storage systems to effectively control, monitor, and track funds, balances, and transactions. He emphasized that "these comprehensive measures collectively enhance the fight against corruption."
He added that "the Prime Minister has provided unlimited support to the Integrity Commission, The Federal Board of Supreme Audit, and law enforcement agencies to recover funds and apprehend fugitives by facilitating all necessary means." He clarified that "these measures have resulted in the extradition of fugitive suspects to law enforcement authorities for prosecution."
Al-Saadi pointed out that "there is a fund dedicated to recovering assets from the previous regime, operating under specific legislation," confirming that "significant amounts have been recovered, including recent deposits from Swiss banks, which have been transferred to the central bank."
