    The UN Security Council’s decision to end the work of the UNAMI mission in Iraq by December 31, 2025 was met with political and parliamentary welcome that praised the efforts of the government of Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani, which submitted an official request to obtain this entitlement, while political forces considered the decision an indication of security, political and societal stability and a victory for Iraq’s right to sovereignty over its decisions, policies, and resources. Representatives described the development as an important victory for sovereignty and national interest.
