Three antiquities traffickers in Diwaniyah were taken into custody, the Interior Ministry said on Wednesday.
In a statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the ministry stated: "The directorate's detachments continue, with accurate intelligence, their duties and security tasks, and the implementation of arrest warrants issued by the competent courts within the responsibility to enhance security and stability in the province as part of the directorate's efforts to arrest wanted persons."
"Three defendants from the provinces of Dhi Qar, Muthanna, and Diwaniyah were arrested in a tight ambush, and they were found in possession of a statue representing a man from the Sumerian civilization, along with the seizure of six artifacts of various sizes," the ministry continued, adding that "the necessary legal measures were immediately taken against them."
