The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, met today, Saturday, in Tehran, with the Acting President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Muhammad Mokhber, to offer condolences on the death of Raisi and his companions.
A statement from the Presidency of the Republic, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated, “The President of the Republic offered his condolences and sympathy on the death of the President of the Republic, Ayatollah Ibrahim Raisi, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and their companions in the tragic plane accident.”
The statement added, "At the beginning of the meeting, the President and the accompanying delegation offered their condolences and sympathy to Muhammad Mokhber, and to the Iranian leadership and people regarding the tragic incident," noting, "The death of President Ibrahim Raisi is a great loss," stressing, "Iraq stands by Iran in this injured person."
The President of the Republic appreciated “the President’s positions in support of Iraq and his work to strengthen relations of cooperation and friendship between the two countries and the two neighboring peoples in various fields,” pointing out, “Iraq was looking forward with great hopes and ambitions to the visit that President Ibrahim Raisi was scheduled to make to Iraq.” But unfortunately, the accident prevented that.”
Rashid stressed, "The importance of the strong relations that bring together the two countries and the necessity of continuing to work to strengthen and develop them in various fields in a way that achieves the aspirations of the two friendly peoples to establish security, stability and cooperation in the region."
For his part, Muhammad Mokhber expressed his “thanks and appreciation to the President of the Republic for his presence to offer condolences for the death of President Ibrahim Raisi and his companions,” stressing, “The Islamic Republic will continue the same approach in strengthening relations with Iraq at various levels.”
