Al-Awadi to (INA): Erdogan’s visit will witness the signing of two strategic agreements and more than 20 memorandums of understanding

    The Iraqi government spokesman, Basim Al-Awadi, confirmed today, Sunday, the signing of two strategic agreements, one of which concerns the water file, and more than 20 memorandums of understanding during the visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Baghdad tomorrow, Monday, revealing the possibility that the visit will witness the signing of a quadrilateral agreement between Iraq - Turkey - Qatar - Emirates laid the foundations for directing the development project.
     
     
    Al-Awadi told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “The visit is historic as it is the first of the Turkish President to Iraq in 13 years, and the last time he visited Baghdad was in 2011, and the importance of the visit stems from the files that it will discuss and which were prepared early.”
    “The visit will be a very important starting point for Iraqi-Turkish relations, in an unprecedented way before its history. It will be the beginning of eliminating problems between Iraq and Turkey. It will witness the signing of two agreements between the Prime Minister and the Turkish President, in addition to more than 20 memorandums of understanding and between Iraqi and Turkish institutions in various fields, and there will be guarantees for their implementation, as committees will follow up on the agreements and memorandums of understanding signed after the end of the visit.” Al-Awadi said.
     
    Regarding the most important topics that the visit will address, Al-Awadi explained, “There will be a big surprise during the visit, as it will witness the signing of a strategic agreement on the water file and will include many points and items. Tomorrow, the Prime Minister will clarify during the joint press conference with the Turkish President the details of the agreement, which brings good news and a big surprise to the Iraqi people."
     
    He explained, "The second file is the path to development, and there is a possibility that discussions will take place during the visit between Iraq and Turkey in the presence of the Ministers of Transport from the countries of Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, in preparation for concluding a quadripartite agreement to begin laying the foundations of the development path."
     
    Al-Awadi pointed out, "The third file will be the economic file and trade exchange, and the fourth is the security file related, especially to the Kurdistan Workers' Party, which is considered a major concern for the Turkish side, and very large arrangements have been made in it during the last period and the joint security committees between Iraq and Turkey are working continuously, and a strategy and solutions have been developed."
     
      "There is an agreement between Iraq and Turkey to establish the same security approach between Iraq and Iran in facing common security challenges, as there will be a comprehensive agreement between Iraq and Turkey to confront security challenges in a way that is in the interest of both countries." Al-Awadi said.
     
    He stated that "the water file with Turkey is very important for Iraq, and the security file for Turkey is very important, and they are among the crucial issues, as Iraq suffers from water scarcity and the Turkish side sees the necessity of working on optimal investment for it."
