US authorities said that an earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale shook a densely populated area of New York City on Friday morning, with buildings shaking throughout Manhattan.
New York Governor Kathy Hokul said: “A 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck western Manhattan and was felt throughout New York.
Hokul added, “My team is assessing the effects and any damage that may occur, and we will update the data to the public throughout the day.”
The US Geological Survey reported that the epicenter of the earthquake was near the Lebanon area in New Jersey.
The New York Fire Department confirmed that there were no initial reports of damage.
