Al-Sudani Initiates Prequalification Process for Consulting Firms on New Sadr City Project

    Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani chaired the seventh meeting of the New Sadr City project on Wednesday.
     
    The meeting reviewed the procedures for the implementation of this significant strategic residential project and addressing all obstacles that impede progress.
     
    The Prime Minister’s Media Office stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): that “Prime Minister Al-Sudani directed the Baghdad Municipality to initiate the prequalification process for consulting firms that will supervise the project, assessing their technical and financial capabilities. He also ordered the finalization of proposals for the power station to be built within the new city, which will supply residential neighborhoods, housing complexes, and urban areas, focusing on capacity and the type of fuel used for operation. Additionally, the Ministry of Planning was instructed to identify funding sources for the Rasafa 2 water project, which will provide water for the new city.
     
    The meeting emphasized expediting the resolution of issues related to some areas within the project, which the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities is reviewing to confirm they are clear of archaeological sites.
     
    It was affirmed that the first phase of the New Sadr City project, which includes constructing 2,000 housing units and the infrastructure for 11,000 housing units, will be funded through the Iraqi-Chinese Framework Agreement.
     
      Al-Sudani reiterated the government's commitment to carrying out the new urban development projects it has unveiled, such as the New Sadr City initiative. This project aims to construct around 60,000 housing units in three phases, executed by specialized international companies. He highlighted the project's strategic importance in Baghdad, which will significantly improve housing standards in Iraq to meet global criteria and specifications.
