The Ministry of Health reported that seven cases of AIDS among children under four years old had been registered, revealing the primary routes of disease transmission.
For a TV program which was followed by the Iraqi news agency (INA), Ministry of Health spokesman Saif Al-Badr stated that "Iraq is among the countries with low endemism for AIDS," adding that "more than 2,000 Iraqi people are infected with AIDS, and that this rate is lower than the global rate and the countries of the region."
Noting that "a person with AIDS can live with the disease and complete his life in his commitment to receive treatment regularly," he continued, "We recorded 7 cases of AIDS among children up to 4 years old."
He emphasized that "cupping and tattooing may be one of the reasons for the transmission of AIDS in addition to other reasons," and that "AIDS treatments are fully available in all specialized centers in Baghdad and the provinces."
"An infected person can live with the disease if he receives treatment correctly and regularly," he continued, adding that "early diagnosis is the most important stage in the issue of AIDS." "There is no vaccine or complete cure for AIDS yet."
