The Minister of Water Resources, Aoun Dhiab, announced today, Thursday, the restoration of water to the Al-Hawizeh Marshes, while revealing plans to maintain the minimum level of water continuity in the deep areas of the marshes.
Dhiyab told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “The Ministry was able to restore water to the marshes, especially to the Hawizeh marsh, which was subjected to a severe drought last year,” stressing that “good quantities of water enter the marshes.”.
He added, "There are plans to maintain the minimum continuity of water in the deep areas of the marshes," noting that "his ministry has carried out very large works currently in the marsh areas, where many rivers have been opened to deliver them to deep water pools, whether in the central marshes or in the marshes of Al-Hawizeh and the Al-Hammar".
He pointed out, "The goal of these works is to sustain water in the marshes of southern Iraq, ensure its good survival, and preserve the population living in these communities.".
He stressed, "There is seriousness in deepening the course of the rivers and delivering water to the deep pools to secure the lives of the marsh residents, especially the buffalo breeders," stressing that "positive results have been achieved.".
