All expeditors near the Passport Affairs Directorate have been arrested, according to a Monday official release from the Federal Intelligence and Investigation Agency (FIIA).
"Its detachments specialized in passport intelligence, received information and complaints that included a group of people under the title (expeditor) exploiting citizens and deceiving them into issuing an electronic passport in exchange for additional amounts of money in violation of the law," FIIA stated in a statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
In addition, the statement stated that "seven red-handed violators who work under the name of (expeditor) and who are located near the Directorate of Passports were arrested by a force of FIIA specialized in the intelligence of the Directorate of Passports."
"After interrogation, the violators openly confessed that they deceived citizens into facilitating the procedures of the electronic passport in exchange for the additional amounts of money, which is against the law," the statement statement read. "Defendants were referred to the concerned authorities in preparation for their appearance before the judiciary to receive their just punishment," the statement further explained.
