Mayor of Baghdad, Ammar Musa Kadhim, confirmed today, Thursday, that the capital’s metro project will see the light soon in light of the support of the services government, adding that it will cover about 80% of the city’s areas.
A statement from the secretariat received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) said: “Kadhim held a meeting at the headquarters of the Baghdad Municipality under his chairmanship and in the presence of the Advisor to the Prime Minister for Transport Affairs, Nasser Al-Asadi, the Technical Undersecretary of the Baghdad Municipality, the Director General of the Design Department, the technical engineering team of the Secretariat, and one of the consulting companies specialized in the field of transportation and trains.”.
The Mayor of Baghdad confirmed, "The Council of Ministers session last Tuesday approved the financial allocations necessary to contract with an international consulting company to provide an integrated vision for implementing the Baghdad Metro.".
He added, "The Baghdad Metro project is one of the old projects for which the Baghdad Municipality prepared several studies that did not see the light due to the inability to implement it because it required the acquisition of a large amount of land and the expenditure of large sums of money.".
He continued, "Today's services government, under the leadership of the Prime Minister, has prepared a new vision for managing the metro file, and we are moving forward vigorously to implement it, and very soon the project will see the light of day to serve the people of the capital.".
He pointed out, "The proposed new areas of the metro will cover approximately 80% of the areas of the city of Baghdad, which will contribute to addressing traffic congestion and meeting the transportation requirements of residential complexes and densely populated areas.".
The statement concluded by saying, "The Prime Minister's Advisor for Transport Affairs confirmed that the metro project is now one of the priorities of the Iraqi government and is being personally monitored by the Prime Minister, and a contract is being made with a specialized consulting body that is considered the best in the world in the field of trains."
