Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced on, Thursday ,that 74 Iraqi universities and colleges are in UI GreenMetric rating.
A statement from the ministry received by the Iraqi News Agency(INA) stated that "the results of the classification recorded(https://greenmetric.ui.ac.id/rankings/overall-rankings-2023) evaluation of (1183 ) university institutions around the world, and Iraqi universities have been able to increase their global competitiveness to (74) institutions compared to the results of the last edition for the year 2022, which included (73) universities".
The statement added "UI Greenmetric rating is based on infrastructure criteria (15%), energy and climate change (21%), waste (18%), water (10%), Transport (18%), education and research (18%), as well as sustainability, environment, green spaces and energy consumption”.
The statement continued that "the University of Babylon topped the Iraqi universities in this ranking, where it ranked (133) globally, followed by the Universities of Anbar, Al-Mustakbal , Baghdad, Middle Euphrates technical, Basra, Nasiriyah, holy Karbala, Sumer, Al-Kafeel and Qadisiyah, down to Hamdaniya University".
The statement pointed out that "Iraqi universities and colleges have registered their increasing competition in (Global Ranking of Academic Subjects), including the Shanghai Ranking , 2023 ,in which the University of Baghdad appeared within the specialty (Dentistry & Oral Sciences), The Times rating there are 13 universities, the QS rating there are 5 universities, the Scimago rating there are 22 institutions, the GreenMetric in which the number of Iraqi educational institutions increased in 2023 to 74 universities and colleges , The URA rating there are 4 Iraqi universities, in addition to the (Webometrics) classification, which recorded the attendance and competition of more than 100 Iraqi university and college".
