Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal announced today, Friday, that he will return to competition in the Brisbane Championship, which will be held in the first week of next January before the Australian Open, after being absent from the field for a year due to injury.
Nadal said in a message posted on social media: “Hello everyone, after a year away from competition, it is time to return. You will be in Brisbane in the first week of January. I will see you there.”.
The Brisbane Championship is scheduled to be held from this December to the 7th of next January, before the Australian Open, which will be held from the 14th to next January, which was the last tournament in which Nadal participated.
Nadal, who has won 22 Grand Slam titles, played his last match on January 18, when he fell to American Mackenzie McDonald in the second round of the Australian Open.
Since then, Nadal, 37 years old, has followed a plan to recover from an injury to his left leg that required him to undergo surgery.
