Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari stressed on, Wednesday, the importance of strengthening bilateral relations with UK, noting that there is intensive work to combat drugs and raise the combat capabilities of the security services.
Media Office of Interior Minister said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "Interior Minister Abdul Amir al-Shammari, met with the UK ambassador to Iraq Stephen Hitchen, and the two sides discussed the overall Iraqi-British relations and ways to enhance joint cooperation in the security fields”.
Al-Shammari expressed the " importance of strengthening the ties of bilateral relations between the two countries”, pointing to "the efforts of the security services in defeating terrorism and organized crime and enhancing security and stability in various regions of the country.
Al-Shammari pointed out that" there is intensive work to raise the combat capabilities by the competent agencies”, stressing that "there is great keenness of the Ministry of Interior in receiving the security file.
Al-Shammari added "There is intensive work in fighting drugs, which resulted the arrest of international traffickers through the exchange of information”.
For his part, the British ambassador stressed "his government's keenness to continue cooperation with Iraq, in order to serve common interests".
