The Iraqi Authority for the Control of Radioactive Sources announced today, Friday, that 3 important basic steps have been taken in preparation for establishing a peaceful nuclear reactor in Iraq.

The director of the authority, Fadel Hawi Mezyan, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), “The government decision and government desire are present towards establishing a peaceful nuclear reactor, and there are important basic steps, including the completion of the regulatory authority law, which has reached advanced stages.”.

Meziane added, "The Chinese side was also approached for the purpose of establishing a complex for educational and research purposes to prepare cadres, train and develop personnel. In a third step, preparations were also made to prepare nuclear specializations in Iraqi universities, especially Al-Nahrain University."
