The Federal Supreme Court FSC decided, on Thursday, to dismiss the case of Cardinal Mar Louis Raphaël I Sako, patriarch of Babylon, the Chaldeans in Iraq and the world.
FSC said in a statement, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that “It considered the case No. 186/federal/2022 containing the appeal against the validity of the procedures for withdrawing the republican decree on the appointment of Cardinal Mar Louis Raphaël I Sako as patriarch of Babylon".
FSC added that "it decided to dismiss the lawsuit of the plaintiff Cardinal Mar Louis Raphaël I Sako, patriarch of Babylon and the Chaldeans in Iraq and the world because there is nothing to prejudice the validity of the procedures for issuing the Republican Decree No. 31 of 2023 published in the official Gazette of Iraq No. 4727 dated 3 /7 /2023 issued by the defendant the president of the Republic/ in addition to his post, which includes the withdrawal of the Presidential Decree No. 147 of 2013, under paragraph (I) of which it was decided to appoint Patriarch St. Louis Raphael I Sako patriarch of Babylon and the Chaldeans in Iraq and the world and taking over the suspension of them".
