The International Red Cross called on Friday to protect medical facilities and workers in the war-torn Gaza Strip, warning that the health system there “has reached the point of no return.”
The International Committee of the Red Cross said that in recent days, its teams distributed vital supplies to medical structures across Gaza, and saw "horrific images that have now become worse due to the escalation of hostilities.".
The organization added in a statement that this had a severe impact on hospitals and ambulances and inflicted heavy losses on civilians, patients and medical personnel, according to the Agence France-Presse (AFP).
Red Cross continued: “Gaza’s healthcare system, overstretched, operating with meager supplies and increasingly unsafe, has reached the point of no return.”
