Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani confirmed that there is a real opportunity for success and Iraq is heading towards a new reality.
Al-Sudani said in an interview with the “Echo of Stadiums” program, followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that “the sports sector is a priority for the government,” pointing out that “sport is not only activities and hobbies, but it contains more than one educational, social, health, and developmental message.”
He added, " Iraqis have clear inclinations toward sports, especially football, and any government must take into account the priorities and concerns of the people."
Al-Sudani pointed out that "the sports sector is one of the most important sectors on the table for discussion by the government and all competent authorities," noting that "Iraq has many elements of strength, and one of these elements is the youth."
He continued: "We are one of the young countries in which the percentage of youth is more than 60 percent of the population," explaining that "the Supreme Youth Council approved and held the first session under my chairmanship and in the presence of the members of the Council, and it came in response to a youth demand by opening a dialogue with a large group of young people."
Al-Sudani stated: “We opened a dialogue with the youth under the name of the National Youth Conference,” adding: “I attended the youth conference that was held at the University of Baghdad, received the proposals and ideas, and went to hold a special session for them in the Council of Ministers.”
He continued: “We hosted representatives of the youth and they came to the Council of Ministers and talked about their ideas and the project they presented. We voted on the ideas related to the youth and they became a priority for all ministries and sectoral bodies,” explaining that “advancing the reality of youth does not fall on the responsibility of just one ministry, but rather is borne by several ministries.”
He went on to say: “We give an area of powers and decentralization to the ministries and governorates,” adding: “The governors, in the meeting of the governorate’s coordinating body, adopted support for the federations and allocating 15 to 20 dunams to establish centers for federations, sports activities, and scouts.”
He explained, "Through the Youth Council, we draw up programs and curricula and follow up on their implementation we opened a window that we called Youth Eye, through which we receive any idea or proposal related to young people. We study these ideas, their compatibility, and the possibility of implementing them. Then they are approved in the Council and go to the sectoral authority and we follow up on their implementation," he stressed Our adoption of the concept of reform is not limited to the economic and financial aspects, but even to the sports aspect.”
He stressed that "the development of clubs requires laws, including the Sports Reform Law, the Unified Sports Law, and the Sports Investment Law, and these are all important laws that clubs and youth are waiting for," explaining that "today there is an operations room for major strategic and economic projects in Iraq that crosses the country."
He pointed out that "the 25th Gulf Championship was an exceptional event in the history of Iraq and the history of sports," noting that "the Iraqi citizen tolerated us a lot, and our people gave a lot, and I ask him to trust his rebel brothers in this government, as they have a vision, a program, and a platform to serve the people."
He stated, "There is a real opportunity for success as we are heading toward a new reality and a new Iraq."
