860 IDPs returned to Diyala

    The Ministry of Immigration and Displacement announced today, Thursday, the return of about 860 displaced families to their areas of residence in 21 villages in Diyala Governorate.

    Ministry spokesman Ali Abbas told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “The Ministry is continuing to implement its procedures and they are divided into several axes and paragraphs,” stressing that “most of them will proceed.”

    Abbas added, "The management of the camps in northern Iraq is the responsibility of the Kurdistan region, and the process of closing them or not must be done in coordination with the region, to facilitate the process of the return of families, and matters are moving in this direction."

    He explained, “There are financial grants, projects, and programs that contribute to supporting displaced families and encouraging them to return, but there are convictions among families and requests about the importance of fully providing services in their areas or rebuilding their demolished homes,” adding, “We respect these demands, and the return process continues.”.

    He pointed out, "The Ministry, in cooperation with the security authorities in Diyala Governorate, returned approximately 850-860 families to 21 villages in the governorate.".

    He continued, "We sent a committee to assess their needs, and the Deportees' Committee in Parliament addressed this issue. There are communications made by the Minister of Immigration with the Ministers of Health and Electricity regarding supporting these villages within the jurisdiction of those two ministries, and there is a response from them regarding the stability of these families.".

    He concluded by saying: "It is the Ministry's responsibility to monitor, record and evaluate needs, and support returning families with the relief materials they need."
